The UKs largest rail freight company has invested in ensuring facilities at its site at Knottingley remain watertight for years to come.

DB Schenker Rail (UK)’s Knottingley West Yorkshire site is a base for its engineering workshops and location for an electricity substation to power the facility. The age of the structure meant that the flat roof had deteriorated and needed replacement.

DB Schenker Rail (UK) turned to expert local refurbishment specialist CC Roofing, and one of the rail company’s customers, Protan, to come up with an effective solution, stripping off the old roof, and replacing with Protan EX 1.2mm Exposed Roof fleece-backed membrane, mechanically fixed.

Protan EX system is purpose-designed to be laid directly onto old roofs, and with its knitted polyester construction and integral 140g/m2 fleece, provides a quick, cost-effective, durable solution that will last for 30+ years.

Adds Bill Cooper, “Although not large, the roof required careful detailing round the large sump area to achieve a roof that will withstand years of exposure and remain watertight.
